Thanksgiving Day in San Francisco!

"There are a thousand viewpoints from the viewtiful city."
~Herb Caen

Ocean Beach with Seal Rock and the Cliff House

It's been awhile since I've been home to San Francisco, so I planned a trip to visit Shep. I was able to get a pretty good deal on a flight over Thanksgiving weekend, so it was a fun brother/sister holiday weekend. I arrived late Wednesday night, so sleeping in on Thanksgiving day was at the top of our to-do list!

After spending the morning sleeping in and relaxing (and a gourmet breakfast of egg mushroom scramble and turkey sausage), we set out for a walk down to Ocean Beach and up and around Land's End.

Em and Shep
We didn't walk all the way to Favorite Place (named by Mom back when we were kids), but we got a great 6-mile walk in that afternoon and watched the sun setting along the Pacific. Beautiful and refreshing.

Can you ever get enough of this view?

After our walk, we made our way back home and Shep got to work making our Thanksgiving dinner. New York steaks, roasted yellow squash, asparagus with bacon and parmesan, and brown rice. Absolutely delicious. And our Thanksgiving "pie" came in the form of vanilla It's Its. Yum! A perfect San Francisco Thanksgiving! Thanks, Shep!

Emery,
We rec'd your Christmas letter. I just had to write to let you know that we completely understand the Skyping with a friend in Lithuania thing. I don't know whether or not you knew that Norm and I are Pathway missionaries in our area. We are on our second cohort, second year, and enjoying it immensely. This year we have three English language learners, in our class of 26, who have had to find a native English speaker with whom to practice. Thank you for working with Viktorija. It is so necessary.
Norm sang a wonderful solo in Sacrament Meeting entitled "Midnight Noel." There wasn't a dry eye in the place. The piano accompanimnet really makes the piece. It is most difficult but we have a sister in our ward who plays the heck out of any keyboard put in front of her. I'll be singing a solo, called "The Penitent" next month. Good for you for continuing to make music with your lovely voice. It brings such joy.
The next time you're here, we WILL get together. Please let us know whenever you come into town. We don't want to miss seeing you. We'll go out to dinner - our treat!
Aaron is remodeling our bathroom and the dust is thick. He just says, "You ain't seen nothin' yet. Just wait till I sand and refinish your floors." I'm counting the days. :( You know how I like a tidy house.
The best to you and congrats on passing your PHR exam! You're a natural.
Love as always,
Pam aka The Meanest Mom in the World.
