You know the drill. A few looks that I liked or caught my eye. Fewer and fewer as the years go on. Also, I'm almost a week late on posting. Apparently, that's also part of the drill.

Now, this one is definitely inventive. I love the shade of red, a deep red with a blue-undertone. The creativity, I'm liking. But I'm also wondering where she was seated and who was sitting behind her and did they complain?

Yet another "please don't sit in front of me" headpiece. Fun, but really... wouldn't want to get stuck behind her.

Mimy Succar

I like the fabric of this one. Not my choice of color. But I think it looks nice on her.

Seriously, there were just SO FEW looks that I liked from the Grammy's...

Loving the beadwork on this one.

Jessica Ledon and David Guetta

Clearly I'm liking the long flowy ones covering more skin. I feel like the majority of dresses consisted of maybe one yard of lace. This one looks lovely.

Lupita Infante

I love the embroidery on this one. Don't love the bodice of the dress so much. But the embroidery is really lovely.

Aaaannnnd. That's it. And that felt like pulling teeth. I guess I'm getting old, were I just don't like the looks anymore. And I certainly don't even know the people. Like, at all. Except a handful. As in, less than 5.

Watching awards shows is no longer really interesting to me. But looking at the red carpet photos the next day still is.

Ali Wong looked simultaneously quirky and elegant. I love the look. And she is quite talented AND a fellow native San Franciscan.

Hailee Steinfeld in Prada

So, as is increasingly the norm, I have no idea who Hailee Steinfeld is. But her look was reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" outfit, only pink. I like it. Only, I think I would have passed on the transparent black gloves. Maybe white? Or pink.

Oprah Winfrey in Louis Vuitton

Oprah has been donning so many purple gowns and outfits on her Instagram page in celebration of her newly produced remake of "The Color Purple." So fun. She's stunning.

Issa Rae in Pamella Roland

Speaking of stunning. Issa Rae. She's just beautiful. And captivating, really. Her makeup artist is a friend of mine from high school, which is a fun connection. I just think Issa glows.

Natalie Portman in Dior

Natalie just looks like a French impressionist garden painting. Different, but it works for me.

Charlotte Stoudt

This dress is simultaneously simple and flashy. And I like it.

Top Ten Looks from the 80th Golden Globe Awards in 2023

I haven't done one of these posts in nearly four years. So I thought I'd throw it out there. Why not? There were several dresses with elements that I really liked, but just didn't like the overall look. That said, here are a few of the ones I thought worked well. Aaaaand, I think my top ten list has eleven choices. Oh well. Who's counting?

Jennifer Hudson chose a gold mirrored look, which normally I wouldn't think I would like. But I think it works. I like the shoulders and neckline.

Jean Smart chose a class with a twist. An elegant look on her.

Monica Barbaro chose a look that works for her well. Her coloring and choice of lipstick make this a lovely choice.

Li Jun Li in a sparkly elegant ivory gown. Very elegant. I love the extra sparkles at the bottom.

Jamie Lee Curtis selected what I imagine was a very comfortable jumpsuit and dressed it up with a lovely black lace cape.

Salma Hayek Pinault chose a dress that is reminiscent of Kate Winslet in the movie Titanic. I don't love the black straps, but other than that it think it's nice.

And lastly, Sharon R. Friedrick chose a simple, elegant gown that I'm sure she could easily wear again and again. Maybe not as fancy shmancy as some of the other red carpet looks, but I quite like it.

Not so impressed with this year's Golden Globes red carpet showings

The Golden Globes aired on Sunday and though I didn't watch them, I certainly checked out the red carpet photos on Monday morning. To be honest, I was not that impressed. It was rather disappointing, actually. There were very few that I liked, even a little bit.

Even so, I've selected a handful to share with you in no particular order, but I'm still not even sure how much I like them.

Helen Mirren can be counted on to deliver a classy red carpet photo. I love the color, the neck, the sparkles, and look at that smile. She seems delightful.

Diane Kruger had a sparkly number, but I couldn't find a picture of her smiling or looking remotely pleasant, so this one will have to do. The sparkles were sparkly enough but not too overpowering.

Yellow is typically not my favorite clothing color. Well, I suppose it's not ever MY choice, but I really love the color on other people. Jenna Dewan Tatum pulled this shade of yellow off quite well.

Next up is Emma Stone. I appreciated the comfort that pants must afford on at an event when you're constantly surrounded by cameras. No long train to trip over. Beautiful sparkly top. But what is the drape she is carrying? I would have liked to see that on.

This teal-colored gown worn by Felicity Jones leaves me with mixed feelings. But I thought it earned a spot on my I-guess-I-sorta-liked-it list. The color is beautiful.

How could I not include Amal Alamuddin Clooney on this list, no matter what she ended up wearing? As we've been hearing she quickly joined the rank of fashion icon this year due in part, I'm sure, to her widely-publicized marriage to George Clooney. She'll be photographed all the time now. She does make good fashion selections, but still this ensemble was only okay in my book. Elegant touch added with the gloves.

And finally, this red number. I certainly like the shade of red. It complements Catherine's skin and hair well. The fabric drape on the top adds some alluring interest.

Well, that's it. Not bad. But not any that will top my list of all-time favorites. Nevertheless, they all looked lovely. I hope they had a good time.

Okay, so I know I've had a lot of fashion posts in the last couple of months and you may think I'm a little shallow, but I'm just sharing the ones I like. And let's face it, I *do* dream about wearing such a gown. So, I'll continue to share. Shallow or not.

This one is a little out of date, but I love everything about this dress. The red-jeweled look. The length of the sleeves. The neckline. The hem just below/at the knee.

Okay, so I know there are loads of other posts that I should be writing and preparing to publish, but Kate Winslet's gown at the premiere of her latest film, Labor Day, caught my eye. The red color is perfect with her skin tone and overall coloring. The short sleeves, empire waist, full length of the skirt, and the beading details are simply beautiful. Great choice, Kate!

So the funny thing is, I don't really watch TV. So the Emmy Awards mean very little to me. But I do love reviewing the red carpet styles. So here goes.

Proposal in Antigua

I may or may not have hinted at my guilty pleasure prior to this post, but now I'm completely coming out with it. I love (hate) watching The Bachelorette and The Bachelor. My life is a little (a lot) unbearable right now, so I have to have some release and living vicariously through Des with the good and the bad, does the trick.

We just finished the season with Desiree and although she really was a bore at the beginning, I've grown to like her. This was certainly one of the more interesting Bach season finales in recent history. The last few episodes were tear-jerkers for me. Her breakup with Brooks just about killed me, since I've been blindsided by a breakup like that before. But in the end, she was able to calm down and open her eyes and see the man who had been there all along, Chris, and realize that he was the one.

Chris was a front runner for me from the beginning. He was friendly with everyone, appropriately engaged (disengaged) from the drama that ensued in the house, and he was steady. And generous. And calm. And artsy and sensitive. But fun and adventurous. And pretty darn tall-dark-and-handsome good looking to boot. I mean, he sounds perfect for me Des, right?

So on this Monday night, when you (I) may be going through a little withdrawal (although let's be honest, I watched it on a Monday only thrice. I always caught up several days later on Hulu.), here are a couple shots to remind you how wonderful that proposal was. And what a great couple. Dare I say, I actually think they'll make it? :)

Oh and take a look at this dress? She's a beautiful girl and this is just a stunning picture. Maybe I should keep this shot for a "Fashion Friday" post, but I'm not. Beautiful, right?

Fashion Friday.

Doesn't Helen Mirren look stunning in this red frock? The jury is out with regard to the length, though. I think I would have like it more if it had been a few inches longer or about six inches short, just below her knee. Nevertheless, I think she looks great. The color, the neckline, sleeve-length, all of it. I approve. She wore this for the "Red 2" premiere at Odeon Leicester Square in London. Fitting, to wear red for "Red 2."

And of course HRH Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge won my heart in her beautiful periwinkle with white polka dots, a bespoke Jenny Packham piece, which she emerged in as she and Will introduced their new baby to the world in front of Lindo Wing at St. Mary's hospital in London.

I thought the blue was a nice touch to honor her new son and the polka dots, a nice homage to Diana, William's mother, who also wore a dress with polka dots when William was born. I also love the fact that she did not try to hide her post-baby belly. All women know that the swollen belly does not immediately shrink when you have a baby, but so many new mothers have body image concerns and try desperately to cover up or wear their pre-pregnancy clothes immediately. I appreciate that Kate embraced her body and did not shy away from showing the world her normal post-birth figure.

Cannes You Feel the Love?

The Cannes Film Festival ran from May 15th through the 26th, so I know I'm a little late in posting this. Many designers graced the red carpet (well their dresses did) and I just had to post a few so I'd remember them.

I was quite pleased, as my friend Sharon pointed out, that there seems to be a trend to cover up a little more emerging in the fashion world, where traditionally, the more skin you bare the better. I really like the more modest trend. I hope it continues. Generally speaking, I think most people look much better when they've covered a bit more skin.

Beautiful designs, right? And I certainly love the lace overlay designs. I don't know all the designers of these gowns, so if you do... let me know and I'll update this post.

I love seeing the dresses from the red carpet. Having not the occasion to wear a floor length dress such as these since I was a senior in high school, I love combing through the photos to see which one I might choose, should the opportunity present itself. Every girl should dream just a bit, right? Which one is your favorite?
