Fashion Favorites at the 2014 Golden Globes.

"It's a new era in fashion - there are no rules.
It's all about the individual and personal style,
wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels,
and up-and-coming designers all together."
~Alexander McQueen

Just a few of my favorite looks from last night's Golden Globes. Pictures were found from a Google search, and I'm likely infringing on some copyrights. I'm happy to give credit or take the pictures down. But I just wanted to share my favorites from the night.

I think my overall favorite of the night was Cate Blanchett's dress, minus the entirely open back (not pictured). I love the black lacy overlay and nude underlay. I have liked this look for the past several years and it's not fading. Cate looks elegant

I can't seem to find the designer of Carly Steel's dress, but I quite like the overall look. I think I would have preferred it without the deep V of embellishment on the bodice, but maybe just a shorter V or none at all. Still it was quite elegant.

I thought the color, cut, and drape of Helen's Jenny Packham dress was lovely. I'm definitely a Jenny Packham fan. And Helen looks great!

Now, while I liked the overall look of Emma's dress, I did not like the length at all. I feel like it made the dress to casual and really diminished the elegant look it was going for. But the gold/black color scheme, the pattern on the gold, and the inverted V at the waist really make this dress stand out. And the scalloped lacy edge of the gold. Yes, I quite like it. Just wish it were floor-length. And check out the two photo bombers in the back. Not sure they like Emma's choice...

Despite many thinking that Julia made a major fashion faux-pas, I actually liked the challenge to the traditional feminine gown. It wasn't a perfect execution of the idea, but I still liked it. It's a little casual, but the floor length of the gown really kicks it up a bit.

So the black on white was a nice look on this one. Zosia looks a bit unimpressed or annoyed, but the dress is nice.

Emma rocked this unique Dior dress. I really like the simplicity of the front. Although I don't usually like completely open backed dresses (i'm too confused...where is her bra? how does that work?), I think this one works for me. And once again, I just like the departure from the norm with the black pants/leggings. The navy shoes were an odd choice to me. I would have gone with black. And the poor lady with her handbag gaping open. She should have checked that latch. :)

And lastly, this jewel-toned number almost didn't make the list, but the more that I look at it, the more I like it. I'm still not sold on the color combination, but I like the overall dress. I think it's actually a combo and not one piece, but I'm not sure. The velvet top with the cute puffed capped sleeves, I like. I thought I was over any puff of a sleeve for the rest of my life, but I like this. The belt is a nice touch. And... the color combo is growing on me.

I appreciate that most of these dresses show more fabric than skin. I'm definitely a fan of more coverage for most people and with most gowns. As I mentioned above, I have bra-less anxiety with backless numbers, boobs spillage anxiety with too little fabric up front, armpit wrinkle/fat arm anxiety with sleeveless gowns, and nightmares of stepping on the front of the dress and the subsequent boob exposure with strapless. And this anxiety is not just for me, it's for everyone else. Coverage is good. It's elegant. More comfortable. And certainly comes with less anxiety!

So there you have it. My two cents on the fashion display last night. Do you have any favorites?

I LOVE this post! Ben gave a big thumbs down for Emma Watson's stunt number. But I admit, I LOVED how different it was. And I think Emma Watson could look great wearing a potato sack, so of course it LOOKS amazing on her. I should post a dueling post on SAG/Golden Globes favorites. I love these fashion posts! Love, love, love.
